Being safe at home was one of the strongest sensations that Boaks experienced when he moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2015. He realized that he felt safer and more at home in his new environment than he ever had previously and began exploring the idea in his art. Boaks believes that being “Safe at Home” is something every man, woman and child should feel. Playing on the words, he worked with baseball imagery and created his first “Safe at Home” as a collage painting. Sculptures and additional collaged paintings in the same theme followed. This “Safe at Home” commission by 13th Street Winery allowed Boaks to create a sculpture at a much larger scale- allowing viewers to interact with it.
