Force by Karoly Veress
Force, circa 1990s
painted sheet metal
64” x 42” x 28”
13th Street Winery Permanent Collection since 2009
This sculpture is made from sheet metal, welded and then painted and constructed on ball bearings, allowing it to turn. Using sheet metal was a technique developed by Karoly. Thick sheets of metal were hammered to create the convex and concave shapes that you see.
Unlike a closed circle, this circle is open allowing forces in and out like that of a powerful magnet. In life one must also allow the movement of forces in and out of one’s soul and one’s self. Veress emphasizes that his work not only reflects the time of its creation, but also have a timeless truth.
