ISOLATED CONVERSATIONS

Open from April 1, 2020 to June 25, 2020

The disruption caused by COVID-19 has challenged many galleries including The Gallery at 13th Street Winery to find alternative ways to show artists’ works. As a response we bring you Isolated Conversations, video interviews with some of Canada’s renowned Artists and Gallerists. We hope you enjoy these intimate recorded video chats from the comfort of your home.

***The audio and visual quality of these videos are limited to the artist’s home technology.
All videos were filmed using video conferencing programs over the internet.

HENRY SAXE
“I want the mind to move around and shift, and not to be fixed on one thing or the sensation of colour.”

PAUL SLOGGETT
“For me the joy of colour is in the experience of colour, in it’s ability to establish a mood, a time of day or season, or to convey a notion of place or location, a flavour or taste, the way that a song can make you recall a precious time or past experience. Maybe it is due to a touch of synesthesia but for me colour is palpable.” 2020

RONALD BOAKS
“I work in a variety of media with a focus on abstraction. The most common elements in my work are pleasure and balance.” 2003

MATT BAHEN
“I am primarily influenced by literature. Using various motifs including water, fire, and animals, I construct individual narratives that remain in a state of perpetual tension.” 2020

KIMBERLY JOY DANIELSON
“My current body of work emerges as a culmination and synthesis of a lifelong practice of painting, psychoanalysis, and exposure to the colours, traditions, and handicrafts of Västerbotten Sweden and Telemark Norway, my cultural heritage.” 2019

DANIEL SOLOMON
“My paintings are a celebration of life, expressed through light, colour and movement. The images in these paintings are abstract although they have connections to landscape, the seasons, and the natural world. My inspiration comes from travel with my wife Martha.” 2020

KYLE CLEMENTS
“You have all these billboards, flashing signs and neon and they’re all screaming for my attention at once. The buzz and rush and energy are really exciting and inspiring….So I started working on a series about capturing the energy and excitement of life in the city.” 2010
