An idea suggested by Donna Haraway in the 1990s in an essay titled The Cyborg Manifesto, was that we are, in a pragmatic way, already cyborgs. Her example was the dependence we have upon alarm clocks, or other technology that is so ubiquitous, so ingrained in our lives, that we don’t even ‘notice’ it anymore.
